I Got Issues, How ‘Bout You??

Are you anything like me? Do you not want to be bothered with changing anything even if you’re uncomfortable? If it doesn’t seem like a big deal, do you want to wait it out hoping the situation will change so that you don't have to? That’s me. But then I become utterly miserable and desperate, and now I’m willing to do just about anything to make the thing better. I research, I beg God for answers, and I turn to my wisdom cabinet for advice.

Why do I have to be so lazy and stubborn that I wait until the problem has become unbearable before I do something about it? Why can't I watch for those troublesome areas and be willing to make the change before I’m made to??

Guys, I struggle with this all the time. I even had to give up a whole summer because I let some issues get so bad that I was deep in depression and confusion unable to figure out the changes that needed to be made. I did a lot of learning, and I am still learning, but I think that I am on the right track at last! God and I have had a lot of conversations about all the problems, and we are still working together - better now than before.

I think we in general wait because we are so addicted and obsessed with the feeling that comes with being comfortable. Also, sometimes the fix isn’t easy, and it may even feel more uncomfortable at the beginning of the change that it doesn’t immediately feel like a fix that we just want to stay where we are.

The feeling that we're living a normal, perfect routine can feel like a drug. It can be our meter showing we're successful. At least that’s what it’s like for me. Everyone wants to 'arrive'. We don't want to have to keep striving. We want to have a purpose in living, but it can't be hard, or we just can't do it. Or we'll try and fail and refuse to try again. Or as in my case, blow my top after the third time something is frustratingly out of reach. Life is hard, but there are three sayings that we all need to live by.

1) No pain; no gain.

2) Anything worth having is worth fighting for.

3) Do everything for God. “And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;” Colossians 3:23 KJV

I know what I'm made to do and for Whom, so that means I should have complete confidence and easy inspiration to do it, right? Well, you would think. But I'm human. And as humans, we tend to be led by our bodies and emotions. When something gets uncomfortable and out of my comfort zone I tend to back off and put it off instead until it magically feels comfortable… Others might try to just make do with something else (not God’s will) and hope it eventually starts to feel fulfilling.

Comfort is a human’s main concern, our priority. We have to fight every day to keep what God wants 1st. We tend to be led by our insecurities. We work on them the most, we focus on them the most, and we dread them the most. Failure to fulfill what God made us for should be our biggest concern, focus, and priority.

Sharing the Gospel with others is our #1 job as a Christian. Then second but not less important, because our testimony can lead to sharing the gospel, is fulfilling that calling God has laid on your heart. That urge to do something specific with a drive and perfect peace in your soul that doesn't completely make sense but brings you alive when you think or talk about it... We need to be doing that for the Lord!!

“Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 3:13-15

Monday Motivation: Be willing to listen to God's gentle leading before He has to come up behind you with the chastisement paddle and use it on your behind. Take care of the minor issue before it grows and overtakes your life and focus. Get working on God's calling on your life. Stop wasting any more time and get after it. You have the Almighty all-powerful God behind you all the way, after all. If I can face my fears and do some things that are uncomfortable little by little -- you can too. "God isn't looking for perfection. He's looking for progress." - unknown. Get going! ;)
